NanoPlane
 |
This is my NanoPlane. It's wingspan is 2 inches, the lengt is 3 inches. Wing cord
is 3/4 inch
Total weight: 65 mg.
The toughest part of the whole plan was the rubber. It's a 2 inch loop of .018 x
.025 inch Tan II.
The prop blades are .004", C Cut, helical formed, then glued to a spar that's
.032" tapered to .010". Prop pitch is 2.7" |
The prop shaft and hook are .008" music wire (guitar string).
Spars are .025" x .020", ribs .025 x .015
Motor stick is .03" x .06"
Dang it all if the thing doesn't fly too.
Yes, that mouse behind it is bigger than the plane. |
Here's a quick photo of me trying to fly the thing.
Some other notes:
- The rubber takes about 1000 turns, but flight times are in the range of 30 seconds
to 1 minute... so far.
- It's heavier than it needs to be, but I already need tweezers to load the motor.
- I'm working on a smaller one. I want the flight case to be a match box.
